Spinal Surgery: The AccuraScope Procedure

AccuraScope is a new “minimally invasive,” spinal surgery procedure that is used to both diagnose and treat inter-vertebral discs, spinal stenosis and other such forms of back pain. The AccuraScope procedure uses a live x-ray for guidance during the procedure. A tiny incision is made is the patient – and through that incision, the surgeon inserts an endoscopic fiber-optic scope which descends down into a natural opening in the base of the spine.

The Spinal Surgery Procedure

The surgeon is then able to see the inside of the spinal canal, as well as the discs of the lower back from both sides of the spinal canal. This enables the surgeon to identify any tears, herniations, ruptures, bulges, scar tissues or any other such abnormalities. With this technique, the surgeon can immediately diagnose the source of the back pain and immediately use a number of special instruments to shrink the scar tissue or damaged discs, relieve pressure on the spinal nerve, and treat spinal stenosis.

The Recovery Time from this Spinal Surgery

The procedure is usually very short, taking only 30-40 minutes and most patients will experience immediate relief. Following the procedure, patients are returned to the recovery room and are usually discharged about an hour after the spinal surgery procedure takes place. Most – if not all patients are able to walk the same day and are usually able to start light exercising and physical therapy the very next day.

The Benefits of Spinal Surgery

Besides being a “state of the art,” minimally invasive procedure, AccuraScope can transform your life by being a surprisingly quick relief to back pain. Other benefits include…

  • Tiny incisions
  • Immediate diagnosis of the cause/source of the pain
  • Earlier treatment when spotted
  • Potentially immediate relief
  • Less chance for recurrence
  • Very minimal scarring
  • Minimal risk of damage to muscles, bone, nerves or blood vessels
  • The normal structure of the disc is maintained
  • Less pain after the procedure
  • Very rapid recovery

If you are suffering from constant back pain and don’t know want to have full-blown spinal surgery, this may be an excellent choice for you.

*NOTE – This procedure is still very new and is currently only performed in only two medical facilities in the United States.
