Intermitted fasting can be used as a tool for quick weigh loss. It is a simple idea that has its roots in our ancestral way of life. People have not always had the ability to eat 3 square meals a day or go to a restaurant at their leisure. It is actually quite recent development in our evolutionary time line that we have this abundance. Judging from the obesity epidemic our evolution has not quite caught up with our eating habits.
Intermitted fasting is basically just doing short fast 16-48 hours followed by a couple days of eating. What happens is that your body is forced to burn fat for energy and if this is done on a regular basis your body will get better at using this fat as a fuel source. Your body holds on to fat exactly for this reason, to get it through the lean times, but our bodies have also started to hold more fat than normal because or eating habits have degraded and we never have the need to fast.
During a short fast your body does not have the opportunity to enter actual starvation mode when it begins to cannibalize itself because of the short period of time and because you are doing a healthy re-feed every couple of days. The idea is not to deprive yourself on the days you eat but also don’t over do it. You can create whatever deficit you want but realize that you do need to nourish after a fast, so don’t go too low.
It is suggested that you only drink water or herbal tea durning the fast in order to take advantage of the full detoxification effect of the cleansing period.
Experimentation is crucial with fasting and two people will likely respond very differently so it is imperative that you enter into a fast with an open mind. Make adjustments as necessary and realize that there will be a period of adjustment and that it will be a battle of will power.
