Many of us use a bench press routine to gain chest size. Our pecs may react well to a few sets of bench presses but many trainees never use dumbbells. The truth is that for an even and well rounded chest development we should also consider switching for a period of time to doing bench presses with dumbbells.
We can easily find dumbbell sets for sale at a very low cost and they are actually often a better purchase than a barbell. With dumbbells we are forced to use very strict form and we can also easily change the width at which we press. This, combined with the variety of hand placements we can use will lead to a very good chest size.
If you perform a routine with dumbbells for the first time you will be very sore the next day. This is a good sign and shows that you have not been hitting parts of your chest hard enough. Continue for a good period of time with a variety of dumbbell presses and you will see some good improvements in size and strength and this will improve the poundages that you can handle for the conventional bench press no end. Don’t forget that you should also use cheap neoprene dumbbells for rotator cuff exercises.
We are putting a lot of pressure on our shoulders and we need to strengthen our rotator cuffs to ensure that we do not get shoulder injuries. This is very important as without strong rotator cuffs we may not be able to bench press at all and the shoulder press may have to go too. You may well perform lateral raises to increase shoulder strength and to aid in improving your bench press poundages but we need strong rotator cuffs to help us lift more weight for dumbbell presses. If you follow these few tips and use dumbbells for the bench press for a while you should see some very good gains and a much better and full pec size, and this is at the heart of a good figure that looks strong and muscular.
