There are three types of feet. These are the Flat, High-Arch and Neutral types of feet. You can determine this by observing the curve on your foot or stepping your wet foot on a piece of cardboard. Here are some descriptions about the three types of feet, the common running problems associated with each foot type, and the right Brooks running shoes appropriate for them.

High-Arch Feet

If you spot a highly prominent arch on your foot, then you have a high-arch foot. This is characterized by a distinct inward curvature on the middle section of your feet. The problem with an exceptionally high arched foot is the possibility to underpronate. This is characterized by the feet turning outward when running or even when walking. With a prolonged period of running, the arch can decrease in time, but cause the feet to increase in length.

Runners with high-arch feet should buy Brooks running shoes that are made with extra cushioning materials, especially on the midsoles to serve as shock-absorber. Also, extra flexibility is required to allow the feet to move. Find Brooks Glycerin 7 and Brooks Glycerin 8 when looking for Brooks running shoes at store.

Flat Feet

It is quite easy to spot certain people with flat feet. If you try to observe your foot, you will see a very little arch or you do not see any arch at all. The entire base of your feet is even or straight from the toes to the heels. For runners, the problem with having flat feet is the tendency to overpronate or roll the feet inward when running. This might cause running injuries, if not corrected, such as foot and joint pains.

When buying running shoes for this foot type, you should find Brooks Infiniti 9 and Brooks Addiction 8. These running shoes are under the motion-control running shoes that are appropriate for flat feet. They have enough firmness to make you walk and run without overpronating. Often, you also need orthotic shoes that are custom made to correct flat feet.

Neutral Feet

This is the most favorable foot type. If you inspect your own feet, you will see that you have just enough curves, not as less or large compared to the other foot types. These feet do not experience as many foot problems or injuries than the other types, as long as you equip yourself with the right Brooks running shoe that will not counteract your feet. Often, you need just the right amount of cushioning, stability and control to run swiftly and carefree. Look for neutral running shoes from your favorite shoes store. Brooks have Brooks Infiniti, Brooks Ghost and Brooks Trance recommended for runners with neutral feet.

If you hate going to the gym but know you need more exercise one easy way to do it is to walk more. Walking is great for your heart and muscles and will help you to stay fit and healthy and using a simple pedometer can be a big help in making sure you increase the distance you walk each day.

Pedometers keep track of the number of steps you take and, by setting goals that are realistic, you can slowly increase the distance you walk each day. Although pedometers were not very accurate in the past today they have improved considerably. There are some pedometers that you do not have to wear on your belt but can be dropped into a pocket or purse so it’s easy to take them with you everywhere.

Can using a pedometer really help you to increase your activity? There have been many trials to test this and the Journal of American Medicine have reported on twenty six trials which all showed an increase in physical activity when participants used pedometers. On average those who used a pedometer increased their activity by 25% over those who did not. This is a very large increase and the effect on the health of anyone who achieved this level of increase would be significant.

A realistic goal for your daily number of steps is important. It is better to slowly increase the number of steps you are aiming for each day until you reach the recommended 2000 steps. You can do this by simple means: park further away from the shops, take the stairs rather than the elevator etc all the ways we’ve been told to increase our activity but have perhaps ignored! With a pedometer on your person, counting your steps you will have an added incentive to do it.

As we said earlier newer models of pedometers can be simply dropped into a pocket and still keep an accurate account of your steps. Which models so this? Check out this Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer Review for a popular model that also keeps a history of your progress and can be used with software to transfer your data to your computer to track how you are doing over time.

Also check out Cheap Pedometers for Sale for a range of pedometers at realistic prices.

Throughout time the runner has been considered one of the pinnacles of physical fitness from the ancient Greek Olympians, through the ages, and down to the modern day runners. Even many of the runners that you see running past your house have more specialized clothes and equipment than you are probably aware of. Even though most runners only need a pair of trainers, a stretch of open land, and the desire to run there are many companies that tailor clothes and gear to today’s runner.

One area that goes unnoticed by many people is running socks. Having the perfect pair of running shoes is important, but matching them with the perfect pair of socks can make even the most experienced runner more comfortable. Even though there may not appear to be a difference between the socks that most people use, and the socks that are geared for runners, the running socks offer several advantages to runners that can help them run farther, keep their feet dry, and keep them comfortable during their run.

Every company offers different features for each model of socks that they produce. Adidas produces the ForMotion brand running socks. Depending on your running style and your budget there are several different types of ForMotion socks that a runner could choose from. All socks in this line feature Antimicrobial technology to keep your socks and feet free from germs, especially useful in mens running socks with those big smelly feet! All of these socks are created shaped specifically for your left and right feet to enhance the movement of your feet. However, they offer several different socks that are designed for different runners. They offer socks that come in a low cut or now show style, as well as offering a socks that offers full cushion support for your feet in all workouts. They also offer a compression sock which is a more lightweight style sock perfect for the runner who prefers a tighter fitting sock.

New Balance also offers several socks that are tailored towards runners, also offering the same quality and performance that can be found in many running socks. New Balance offers runners socks that feature compression arch support to add stability and comfort, along with ventilation specifically knitted into the socks allowing the foot to breathe. New Balance takes this a step further with three different models that add different models of support for runners. The first is the Lightning Dry which offers moisture management to keep the runner’s feet dry. The second is the CoolMax sock which is a low cut socks that also keeps the runner’s feet dry. Finally New Balance offers the Cotton Nanotex Wicking sock that is treated with Nanotex to keep the sock dry, as well as feature a welt top to help the socks stay up better.

No matter what your running style or budget is, there are many companies out there that tailor their products specifically to the modern day runner. So whether you are just starting to run around the block, or if you are training for your fifth marathon, having the right socks can make all the difference in the world.

The kind of running you decide to do will have a large bearing on what equipment you will need to buy. If you are a track runner, you will need running spikes. If you run on the roads, or just love jogging around your local park, you will probably be better off with rubber soled running shoes. Whatever type though, aim to get the best shoes you possibly can within your budget. If you opt for the cheapest ones, you may end up finding that they fall to bits and you need to buy a second pair. Or worse, you might discover that they have contributed to an injury that ended up putting you out of action for a month!

If it is spiked running shoes that you decide upon, it is also important to get the correct ones. All spikes are not the same. So if you are a 100-meter runner, a sprinter, make sure you get the lightweight sprinting spikes. They have very little padding or often no padding at all. They are just plates containing pins, worn to grip the ground as you explode down the track for 10 or so seconds.

On the other hand, if you are a long distance runner, these sprinting spikes will be totally inappropriate, and they will quite possibly end up crippling you. This is because sprints involve running mainly on the toes and balls of the feet, whereas slower, long distance running involves the whole foot impacting the ground. The slower running technique also involves the heel landing first. So cross country and middle and long distance running spikes have far more padding in the shoe itself, to protect the runners’ feet and absorb shock during prolonged races. This shock absorption prevents injuries of the joints.

So first, make sure you know what kind of surface you will run on. For softer surfaces, including synthetic tracks and muddy cross country courses, wear running shoes with spikes. And for hard paved areas, on the roads or at the park, go for running shoes with more cushioning and rubber treads.

If you have been looking at running shoes lately, you might have seen them described with terms like “moderate cushioning” or “well-cushioned”. But not all runners realize what cushioning really does for a running shoe, or how much they need for themselves.

The term cushioning doesn’t refer to the softness or plushness of a running shoe. Rather, it applies to how well the shoe can absorb the shock of impact during a run, and for how long. A shoe with a high level of cushioning should feel better at the end of a long run, as opposed to one with a low amount of cushioning. Most cushioning (and pronation) features are located in the midsole, which is situated above the outsole and underneath the foot. Of course, a shoe with more cushioning will be heavier than one with less cushioning.

Let’s look at the different levels of cushioning found in running shoes, and which types or runners benefit from each.

Minimum Cushioning

A shoe built for speed, not durability. A minimum cushioned shoe provides only enough features to protect the feet and body during racing and quick-pace training. This shoe will not last for too many miles. Racing flats and performance shoes are examples of shoes having minimal cushioning.

Moderate Cushioning

This is the everyday workhorse running shoe. A moderate cushioned shoe has a mix of midsole materials with medium-sized cushion devices. It meets the needs of the majority of runners, and works with almost any training regimen and body-frame size. A good choice for both veterans and beginners. Some examples of shoes with medium cushioning are regular (moderate mileage) training shoes , cross country shoes, and trail shoes.

Maximum Cushioning

The Cadillac of running shoes. A maximum cushioned shoe uses the biggest cushioning devices available, as well as durable midsole materials that don’t break down easily. This is the most long-lasting midsole of all. This type of shoe is best for those who are training at high mileage, or for larger-framed runners. Runners with rigid arches and those who supinate should also benefit from a well-cushioned shoe, which will help their feet to absorb the shock of impact more efficiently.

There are some cyclists out there who seem to have the zeal for all weather, all conditions, all out United States Postal Service approach. For the rest of us, riding in below zero temperatures or hurricane rains isn’t our idea of a good time. Still, a devoted rider goes a little crazy if he gets stuck indoors for a few days because of inclement weather. He can practically watch his legs shrinking as the muscle tone goes into hibernation and all he has left to do is dread the moment when he has to get back on the bike and build that endurance again. If you are not the type who finds courage for the hurricane but you are the type who dreads the sprint after the sedentary days indoors the Kurt Kinetic Bike Trainers are the solution for you.

If you have tried peddling stationary bikes in the past, you might be hesitant to go back to them as a way to keep you in good condition for the road. Like so many others you might doubt that a stationary machine can produce good results. Open up to the technology of a kinetic bike trainer and you will find that there is a good ride for anyone. The sealed fluid chamber (silicone fluid) ensures that you won’t have leaks in the system. With eighty cooling fins, this is the system with the lowest running temperature.

Beginning with the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine and applying to every design, the Kurt Kinetic Bike Trainers are built to simulate real road conditions. They all have a minimum of a fifteen second coast down from twenty miles per hour, some models having an even greater coast down. You control the resistance by changing speeds on your bike. Every model has a lifetime crash warranty and every model beginning with the original Road Machine gives you the road back, no matter where you are, so you can stay fit during the worst weather or just get in a good sweat without the hassle of the hot sun.

Many of us use a bench press routine to gain chest size. Our pecs may react well to a few sets of bench presses but many trainees never use dumbbells. The truth is that for an even and well rounded chest development we should also consider switching for a period of time to doing bench presses with dumbbells.

We can easily find dumbbell sets for sale at a very low cost and they are actually often a better purchase than a barbell. With dumbbells we are forced to use very strict form and we can also easily change the width at which we press. This, combined with the variety of hand placements we can use will lead to a very good chest size.

If you perform a routine with dumbbells for the first time you will be very sore the next day. This is a good sign and shows that you have not been hitting parts of your chest hard enough. Continue for a good period of time with a variety of dumbbell presses and you will see some good improvements in size and strength and this will improve the poundages that you can handle for the conventional bench press no end. Don’t forget that you should also use cheap neoprene dumbbells for rotator cuff exercises.

We are putting a lot of pressure on our shoulders and we need to strengthen our rotator cuffs to ensure that we do not get shoulder injuries. This is very important as without strong rotator cuffs we may not be able to bench press at all and the shoulder press may have to go too. You may well perform lateral raises to increase shoulder strength and to aid in improving your bench press poundages but we need strong rotator cuffs to help us lift more weight for dumbbell presses. If you follow these few tips and use dumbbells for the bench press for a while you should see some very good gains and a much better and full pec size, and this is at the heart of a good figure that looks strong and muscular.

While not a problem encountered by everyone, some people have a difficult time obtaining their proper amounts of daily exercise. Wishing to take better care of themselves, many are looking for practical solutions needed to accomplish this task; including searching for exercise equipment to use in the home. One of the best indoor exercises people can perform is stationary biking. To help people meet their indoor fitness goals, there are a variety of stationary bikes available; suitable for most fitness-orientated adults and teens.

Did you know there are two main stationary bike designs shoppers can choose to help meet their fitness goals? The first is the traditional upright, fitness bike. The second is the more accommodating recumbent fitness bike. Both are available with optional features including varied resistance levels, pre-programmed biking routines, and adjustable seating. Because this needs to be a user-friendly piece of fitness equipment, only shop for stationary bikes you feel comfortable using, as you will want to utilize your bicycle for workouts and not as a clothing rack.

With respect to resistance, there are approximately five different resistance options available. If concerned with getting a good workout, you should choose a stationary bike with many, adjustable resistance levels. Stationary bikes with higher resistance levels are better for helping those exercising meet more long-term, fitness goals. When shopping note the type of resistance offered: fan, hydraulic, friction belt, magnetic and wheel types. Depending on your present fitness level, you will need to choose a resistance type that is accommodating to your present as well as future fitness goals.

An optional feature, available on many fitness bikes, is the use of an onboard computer system. Able to provide information to the user such as their speed, distance, calories burned and heart rate, many also come with pre-programmed biking routines designed to provide some computer-assisted, personal training. While it is not necessary to purchase an exercise bike with computer capabilities, these computer-assisted bikes are great for people interested in recording and planning their long-term healthy living goals.

Now that you understand the uses of fitness bikes a little better, these can be implemented into your daily exercise routine to meet weight loss goals and once these have been achieved, used as a tool to promote optimal cardiovascular health. When combined with a healthy meal plan, fitness biking is a fun way to help achieve a healthy lifestyle. Be sure to consult a physician before beginning any kind of diet plan, weight loss quest or beginning fitness routine and once you and your established plan have been cleared, health enthusiasts can enjoy all of the benefits associated with fitness biking.
